Description: Beautiful kōgō in the shape of a Chinese lantern plant (hōzuki) with intricate texture convincingly replicating the plant’s papery thin texture. Beautiful colour gradient towards the tip of the plant turning green. Stem folded to the side. Cracked gold interior. Use of kanshitsu (dry lacquer) technique, using a linen cloth soaked with lacquer, which is pasted onto a mold made of wood, clay, or plaster. With double box: olive-coloured washi box and original signed box, inscription: dried lacquer, Chinese lantern plant incense container. *Born in Tokyo, currently working and living in Yamanaka-cho, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. He studied lacquer techniques under his father, a dry lacquer artisan (1926-1989). Specializing in dry lacquer, he has received high acclaim for his realistic lacquer kōgō.
